INDIO, CA — In what was expected to be a bloody battle, Alfonso Gomez prevailed. In front of a live crowd at the Fantasy Springs Resort, Gomez defeated Japanese slugger Yoshihiro Kamegai by unanimous decision. Judges final scores 98-91 across the board. Gomez managed to evade Kamegai’s forward charging surge working behind an active jab and continued head movement. Whenever Kamegai attempted to engage, Gomez smothered and returned accurate shots that left Kamegai confused and struggling to settle into a rhythm.
